Getting Started

Thank you for considering the Center for Bariatric Surgery at St. Vincent Charity Hospital! At the Center for Bariatric Surgery, we understand the questions, the concerns and the hopes that you have when considering a surgical procedure like ours. You have questions about your health, about your safety and about us and we are here to support you, every step of the way.

As one of the most experienced Centers for Bariatric Surgery, we have a proud history and much information to share. As you proceed with Getting Started, please navigate through this guided tour. You will learn about the surgery, the results, the risks, our support programs, our history, our team and more.

The Steps to getting started:

First, attend an Informational Seminar where we will explain the surgical procedure and the weight loss process, and answer all of your questions.

Second, if you decide that you would like to proceed with the surgery, you will call the Center to schedule a one-on-one consultation with a surgeon. At this time, the surgeon will tell you whether you are a candidate for bariatric surgery and discuss any steps that you might individually need to take prior to surgery. At the time of the consult, program staff will discuss insurance options and provide you with access to patient support programs, such as our online password-protected Patient Resource Center and our newsletter, Bella Vive.

Third, once you receive approval for surgery from your insurance provider, we will notify you of your surgery date and schedule you for Pre-Admission Testing.
