Ophthalmology / Lions Eye ClinicAbout Lions Eye ClinicSince 1925, 44,772 Lions Clubs in 186 countries have aided the cause of the blind and visually handicapped. Lions International has devoted time and funding for people who are in need of eye care, but lack the funds for such care. These efforts have made Lions International the largest service organization in the world. In 1970, the International Association of Lions Clubs approved a Lions Eye Clinic for Cleveland, Ohio, located at St. Vincent Charity Hospital. We are one of only seven in the country. The 47 Lions Clubs, 2 Lioness and 2 Leo Clubs of Northeast Ohio (District 13-C) have undertaken permanent support of this project. The Lions Eye Clinic has treated more than 80,000 people since its opening in 1970. A Commitment for the FutureBoth Lions International and St. Vincent Charity Hospital are proud to support the services offered through the Lions Eye Clinic. Assistance provided by individuals, corporations and northeast Ohio Lions Clubs is appreciated in support of this worthwhile project. Expertise of the CaregiversThe Ophthalmologists at the Lions Eye Clinic are Board Certified and skilled in the most advanced treatment techniques available. They have expertise in a wide range of eye disorders. Patient ResponsibilitiesTo see a doctor for an eye exam, please call the Clinic at 216-363-2523 to schedule an appointment. When you meet with your doctor, he or she will fill out a medical necessity form stating whether or not you need eye glasses or surgery. You will then take this form to a financial interviewer who will do an assessment, fill out additional forms and pass the forms along to the Lions to determine if you are eligible for assistance. If you are approved, the financial interviewer will give you a Lions Application Form. No one is guaranteed funding by the Lions. After the interview process, all cases are reviewed by a committee to determine if funding will be granted. If you are approved for financial assistance, the Lions will notify you by phone or mail and will contact the optician who will make the glasses for you. If you are approved for surgery, the Lions will notify both you and the eye clinic to schedule your surgery.
