Follow-up Care

Once your cancer treatments have been completed, your medical oncologist will continue to hold regular follow-up appointments with you. Your doctor (Oncologist) will determine how often these visits occur. The follow-up visits are usually every one to three months for at least five years. Some visits will include blood tests, and your Oncologist may also determine if you need other tests such as CT scans or x-rays.

You are encouraged to call your Oncologist or nurse if you have questions or concerns before the next appointment. If you don't feel well, do not hesitate to call your Oncologist or nurse.

  • It is important to take good care of your body to help maintain your health.
  • Eat a healthy diet, low in fat and high in fiber.
  • Do not smoke. If you do smoke, get help so you can stop.
  • Exercise regularly to improve your energy and well being.
  • Maintain a normal weight to help you feel healthy and well.
  • Get regular dental exams and cleanings.
  • Women need annual check ups with a gynecologist for PAP tests and mammograms.

If you have any questions about developing a routine healthcare program, please ask your doctor or nurse.
